" Learning is the gift, when pain is your teacher "  -  Rik Ellis

Academy of Hard Knocks

The ` Academy of Hard Knocks ` is a new initiative aiming to provide support for our youth community. Specifically for those who are in need of guidance and role models to break the cycle of youth offending, or those who find themselves on the wrong path and want to changetheir lives for the better.
Rik Ellis centre with Sir Gerald Howe MP for Aldershot and once the PPS to PM Margaret Thatcher.
Sir Gerald is a strong supporter of the ` AHK ` initative to help wayward youngsters get back on track to a more productive life.

Rik Ellis recently met with Sir Gerald Howarth MP at the Fight Science Gym  Aldershot, to discuss the future of `Academy of Hard Knocks ` and its success with local youths. The system is based on strict discipline with a total no nonsense approach.

Rule:ix.Small joint manipulation = fingers - toes - is illegal.

Nykko - Sankyo - Kotegaesh are not small joint manipulations, they are wrist control techniques and therefore legal and applicable.

From clinch; irimi with elbow in to face, keeping body tight turn and take into kotegaesh.

The Aikido that my father taught me was Traditional Aikido as taught by Kenshiro Abbe Sensei. Aikido was a `martial art. To many the word `martial` is irrelevant and the word `art` appeals more to the tree huggers.

British Aikido Board - Jack Poole Controversy
The Betrayal of British Budo

My father Henry Ellis with uke Geoff Goodwin 1968

My father had no idea in 1968 that the bearded man sitting on the right ` Mr Jack Poole`, would one day re-invent himself to be a pioneer of UK Aikido, not only before my father, but also before Kenshiro Abbe Sensei.
Who knows what Mr Poole is dreaming of as he sits there as a complete beginner.
In the year 2000 Mr Poole's dreams became public, as he claimed to have been an Aikido student of Tadashi Abe in France in 1952 - a student of Tomio Otani for Kendo in 1953 ( Tommio was in Junior school at that time :-)
Mr Poole claimed to be a dan grade in Shotokan Karate, 16 years before it was introduced to the UK. - Mr Poole claimed to be a 3rd dan in Judo with Otani Sensei ( totally denied by Robin Otani Sensei president of the BJC ) - Mr Poole claimed to have represented the British Judo Council in international competition ( several years before the BJC was created :-)
Mr Poole has been graded by his own students to 7th dan ( it may be 8th by now :-)

British Aikido Board Exposed.

Kenshiro Abbe Sensei and the early pioneers of Aikido in the UK could never have imagined that 50 years on, there would be a governing body for the art of Aikido, a governing body that would collude with a self-graded Mr Jack Poole to corrupt the true history of Aikido in the UK.

The BAB would attempt to create a history of crass lies and deceit to suit their own devious agenda.
Henry Ellis and Derek Eastman took their case first to the Minister for Sport at the `Houses of Parliament` - then to - `Sport England`.
The BAB were reprimanded for their crass conduct and instructed to give a written apology to Henry Ellis.
It is our aim to protect our proud history and lineage from those that create their own grades, titles and history.

Future generations will one day look for the truth.

  Aikido in MMA

A mystery - why is Ki Aikido only effective on other Ki students ?

If there were `real` competition in Aikido, where a man puts his technique to the test, as there is in Judo and MMA, it would eliminate a lot of the bs dancers who have little or no true fighting spirit from hiding behind  the protective cover of `Aikido is Love `.

UK1 MMA - Rik`hammer` Ellis - Wins UK1 MMA Light Heavyweight Title - Belt

Rik Ellis the son of Henry Ellis Shihan - Aikikai Hombu, a student of Aikido from the age of five years. Rik continues to enjoy his Aikido as taught to him by his father a direct student of the legendary Budo master Kenshiro Abbe Sensei.
Rik follows his fathers teaching that, whilst Aikido can be practised in harmony in the dojo - it is totally unsuitable for application in `the street`in a time of need.
Teachers should teach students how to adapt their Aikido to meet any, and all hostile situations - The problem is - many teachers are unable to adapt.
Rik believes in `Positive Aikido` - If threatened - take a positive approach - deflect your opponents attack - enter - finish. no time to talk of aiki love and floating around the universe - no time to breath through your toes or slap your attacker with a coloured ribbon. - This would be a good time to test your `no touch` throws, or perhaps try a `Ki Blast` ( reality check ) - Good luck.

                                                Rik `hammer`Ellis - vs - Kriston `hulk` Buxey

                                                                    The Fight in Brief.

Kriston Buxey really brought it on with a great opening shot that spurred Rik in to action in a fight he was just as determined to win as was Buxey. After the opening shot from Buxey Rik allowed his 18 pounds heavier opponent to push him back into the cage wall where Rik made a very effective tight `Tenkan` turn off the cage wall taking his opponent down into  a punishing `ground n pound` finishing with a rear naked choke in the 46th second of the first round.

The 46 second win should not undermine what was a battle from the bell to the end.
Rik Ellis Aikido - MMA wins in 46 seconds of the first round.

Professional photos and video to be added as soon as available

Rik `hammer` Ellis fought Kriston`hulk`Buxey for the UK1 MMA light heavyweight title and championship belt. Rik won with a RNC in a hard fought 46 seconds.

Jay Dods Ellis unbeaten in 5 straight MMA fights.

18 yr old Jay Dods Ellis made it 5 straight wins as a semi-pro MMA fighter by beating 30yr old Polish fighter Pavel Famel in 56 seconds of the first round to take the UK1 MMA Light weight semi-pro title with a KO.
It was a great night for Henry Ellis as he watched his son and grandson demonstrate the Ellis family fighting spirit.

THE RIK ELLIS FIGHT VIDEOS

If you don't see Aikido in my videos? avoid stress, just try to relax by breathing through your toes - or put on some music and get out your coloured ribbons and have a relaxing Aiki dance. or perhaps extend your Ki to the Aikiweb forums.

For my father and I - Aikido is a traditional martial art, I believe that it should maintain these classical roots, whilst doing so, It should also move into the 21st century by teaching a more self - defence applicable form of Aikido for the modern era..Unlike most martial arts and sports generally, there is no competition in Aikido ( please do not refer me to Tomiki competition ) If there were to be competition in Aikido there would be a lot of so called `masters` high grades tucking up their Hakama's and running for the hills clutching their Kellog grades...In particular the self graded who devalue the good name of Aikido by spawning more of their ilk, complete with self awarded pompous titles - Kenshiro Abbe Sensei often said " No matter your pretense - you are what you are - nothing more ..
